Who Should Rule Westeros After Season 5 of Game of Thrones?
Who Should Rule Westeros After Season 5 of Game of Thrones?
With Season 5 of Game of Thrones concluding, it’s time to speculate on who would be the best person to rule the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Weighing the characters’ strengths and weaknesses, can we see a unification under one ruler again?
Jonathan "Jon" Snow
Although Jon Snow was shown as dead towards the end of the season, there are rumors of his return. The actor, Kit Harrington, confirmed rumors that he will not be returning for season 6. However, there are still listings among actors for a raise in seasons 6 and 7, suggesting the rumors have a base of truth. It’s safe to assume that the Red Woman may resurrect him, or he may Warg into Ghost.
Jon is a promising candidate for the throne. He is ambitious, moral, and generous. His leadership qualities have been showcased throughout the series, making him a strong and reliable choice. If elections were to be held in Westeros, I would definitely vote for him.
Daenerys Targaryen
Even though Daenerys has proven herself as an astute and capable leader until season 4, Season 5 has not been kind to her. The fifth season painted a picture of a leader without backbone, who appears vulnerable, scared, and helpless without her dragons. If we consider a queen so dependent on her dragons, it raises questions about her leadership qualities. Perhaps she needs more time to inspire loyalty and solidify her position. Without her dragons, she may struggle to regain her strength.
Tyrian Lannister
Tyrian Lannister has intelligence and moral fortitude, but as the finale of the fifth season highlighted, he lacks respect and local power. While he may excel in the background, leading from the sidelines, taking the front stage would be a risk for him. His position is that of a supporter rather than a ruler in the current climate.
Other Characters
Other characters like Arya and Sansa have been away for too long to learn the intricacies of ruling a kingdom. Tommen, the current king, is not reliable, and Littlefinger’s influence might lead to chaos. Stannis Baratheon may still be alive, though his fate is not clearly shown, and without his army, he is unlikely to make a significant impact.
It appears that there is currently no one up to the task at hand. Assuming Stannis and Jon are both dead, Daenerys would be the primary candidate. However, her leadership seems to be faltering, especially without her powerful ally, now her dragons. Even the failing leadership of the Lannisters would make taking Kings Landing a challenge.
While we wait for the continuation of the story in Game of Thrones, these characters present a range of potential leaders. The scars of the past five seasons serve as a reminder of the difficulties in unifying the Seven Kingdoms again under one ruler.
Will Westeros be united under one ruler again? The answer remains to be seen, but the characters listed here provide a compelling discussion on the potential future of the realm.
