Where Are All the American Movie Superheroes During This Pandemic?

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, where are the beloved American movie superheroes? Contrary to public expectations, they are nowhere to be found. This is because superheroes, in the traditional sense, do not exist. Instead, we see real-life heroes such as firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), nurses, doctors, grocery store workers, and government employees. These individuals are relentlessly sacrificing their safety to ensure the survival of the average person during these challenging times.

Valiant Human Efforts

These real-life heroes may not possess superpowers, but they risk their lives every day so that others can continue to live with a semblance of normalcy. Their courage and dedication deserve our respect and gratitude. Even in the face of a global crisis, they diligently perform their duties, often changing their usual attire for greater safety.

Superman as a Role Model

Superman, the quintessential American superhero, is setting a remarkable example for children around the world during these trying times. He has been communicating regularly from his Fortress of Solitude, insisting on the importance of handwashing and encouraging us to stay indoors for our own safety. Additionally, he has been ensuring that entertainment is available to us through home-based activities, reminding us that even during a pandemic, it is possible to find comfort and enjoyment.

A Flash of Hope in Quarantine

The Flash has found solace in his Star City apartment with his partner, Iris. Although he is abiding by the lockdown measures, he cannot completely suppress his urge to go for a quick jog, doing so carefully to maintain social distancing. Despite the irregularity, his actions are an inspiration to his fandom. Meanwhile, Spiderman has faced a small setback for his part – he was seen helping an elderly lady cross the street during lockdown, only to receive a fine as a result. Since then, he has been under house arrest to enforce the rules.

Hal Jordan’s Mission in Space

Hal Jordan, otherwise known as Green Lantern, has been deployed on a space mission for the duration of the pandemic. This keeps him largely unaffected by the disease, and he uses this time to send aid to those in need. Wonder Woman, on the other hand, has retreated to her island-nation of Themyscira, but she has not forgotten her duties. She has sent delegations to deliver food and supplies to those in dire straits.

The Marvel Universe’s Response

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Tony Stark has been philanthropically donating vast sums of money to healthcare workers, who are on the forefront of the battle against the virus. Other heroes like Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Thor, and T’Challa have also taken on roles in their respective domains. Peter Parker is working on a vaccine, while Thor and his sister, Shuri, have developed a cure but are limiting its distribution to the people of Wakanda. They are symbolic of the message that the struggle against the pandemic is not just for one’s own benefit but for the greater good of humanity.

Athenian Figures Thrive in Isolation

DC Universe characters like Wonder Woman and Shazam are also adapting to the new reality. Wonder Woman is working at her museum as a curator, and Shazam is learning remotely, just like the rest of his DC family. Meanwhile, Batman and Superman might see themselves enforcing a quarantine in Gotham and Metropolis, respectively, much like in their comic book and film versions.

These examples show how superheroes, both those from the Marvel and DC universes, are adapting to the challenges of a global pandemic. Real-life heroes are demonstrating the true spirit of courage and sacrifice during these dark times. While they might not have superpowers, their selflessness and dedication are the real superpowers we need now more than ever.
