Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Is She Dead or Alive?
As of my last knowledge update in August 2023, Wanda Maximoff, also known as Scarlet Witch, had not been confirmed dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Her status in the comics varies slightly, but her fate in the MCU remains a topic of speculation and ongoing discussion.
Scarlet Witch's Fate in the MCU
In the MCU, it is currently confirmed that Wanda Maximoff is dead. This conclusion comes from the Agatha All Along teaser trailer, which hints at her demise. However, in the comics, Wanda has the ability to resurrect herself, a power that has not yet been confirmed in the MCU.
Agatha Harkness and Future Returns
Despite her confirmed death, there are indications that Agatha Harkness, who is set to appear in Vision's Quest, could lay the groundwork for her return. However, based on leaks, it is highly likely that Wanda will not reappear anytime soon. Her departure from the Avengers may be temporary, as her increasing power makes her a threat to the existing teams. Additionally, it is possible that she has switched to another universe, where she could play a major role in the Multiverse Saga.
Wanda Maximoff's Dilemma in the Movies
In Spider-Man: No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness, it is clear that Wanda Maximoff is dead. The mountain collapsing on her in Spider-Man: No Way Home is followed by a red flash of light, which is indicative of Wanda's return. This confirmation leaves no ambiguity about her survival and teleportation out of the collapsing ruins.
Moreover, it is speculated that Wanda will realign with the X-Men as they make their entrance into the MCU. This move aligns with business sense, as placing a well-established, popular character with a connection to the X-Men into a new sub-franchise makes strategic sense.
The Role of Wanda Maximoff in the Multiverse Saga
Wanda Maximoff, with her reality-changing powers, is one of the few characters capable of creating a new set of Infinity Stones. Her powers, which are colored red, make her the most logical choice for creating a new Reality Stone. The destruction of the Infinity Stones by Thanos and their replacement with their past selves raises the question of whether the MCU currently lacks these powerful artifacts and is experiencing the consequences.
During Avengers: Endgame, the Ancient One explained that without the Infinity Stones, the world would experience incursions and a weakening of universal barriers, potentially leading to the collapse of the universe. The events of recent MCU films, such as No Way Home, Multiverse of Madness, and Let There Be Carnage, suggest that the MCU is indeed suffering from the absence of these stones.
Wanda's role in the creation of new Infinity Stones is crucial to ending the Multiverse Saga. While this idea delves into speculative territory, the need for Wanda's return is evident, as her survival and presence are necessary for resolving the current conflicts and setting the stage for future storytelling.
