The Mysteries of the Force: From Ancient Beings to the Sith

In the early days of Star Wars, the Force was merely a concept hinted at in A New Hope. However, as the saga has unfolded, a fascinating historical narrative has emerged, revealing that the Force has a much richer and more complex history than we first thought. From ancient beings to the origins of the Sith, this article delves into the discovery and history of the Force in Star Wars lore.

Who Discovered the Force?

The origins of the Force are shrouded in mystery, but the history of its discovery spans millennia. While no definitive 'discovery' of the Force exists, major applications and philosophies have shaped what we know as the Force.

Many entities and civilizations have been credited with the discovery and early understanding of the Force, including the Force Priestesses, the Celestials, and the Bedlam Spirits.

The Force Priestesses

The Force Priestesses are described as five beings encountered by Yoda in an unknown location in the center of the galaxy. These beings embraced different emotions and existed in a state of oneness with the Force. They could switch in and out of existence, embodying the different aspects of the Force.

The Celestials

The Celestials are a group of Force beings, including the Father, Daughter, and Son, as well as the Mortal who gained comparable powers by drinking from the Font of Power. They exhibited remarkable control over the Force, capable of shapeshifting and manipulating matter. They may have been among the first to discover the potential of the Force.

The Bedlam Spirits

The Bedlam Spirits are a mysterious entity inhabiting the planet of Bedlam. According to fables, these beings possessed absolute control over the Force, capable of manipulating both time and mass. Little is known about them, but they are a testament to the early understanding of the Force.

The Evolution of the Force in Mortal History

The history of the Force also includes significant contributions from various species and orders. The following sections explore how the Force has evolved through the Kwa, the Rakatans, the Jedi Order, and the Sith.

The Kwa and Rakatans

The Kwa, an advanced species from the planet Dathomir, were the first to master the Force before 100,000 BBY. They created Infinity Gates, which allowed for instantaneous travel across the galaxy. However, when the Kwa introduced their technology to the primitive Rakatans, the Rakatans weaponized it for conquest, leading to the creation of the Infinite Empire around 35,000 BBY.

By 25,000 BBY, the Rakatans' reign ended due to a deadly plague, but their force architectures became widespread, propagating the Force to many planets.

The Je'daii Order

The Je'daii Order was a diverse group of Force-sensitive beings from the planet Tython. Around 36,400 BBY, they were transported by the Tho Yor pyramids. The Je'daii studied the balance of the Force, inspired by the moons Ashla and Bogan. In around 25,000 BBY, infighting led to the formation of the Jedi Order.

The Sith Order

The Sith were the final significant force in the history of the Force. Around 6,900 BBY, a group of 12 Jedi, including Karness Muur, chose a different path, embracing the darkness of the Force and becoming the first Sith. This marked a significant turning point in the Force, leading to the founding of the Sith Order and the Sith Empire.

As this narrative shows, the discovery and understanding of the Force were shaped by various beings and civilizations over time. The Force is not just a tool of the Jedi and Sith but has a rich and varied history that continues to captivate fans and scholars of the Star Wars universe.
