How Does God Feel About His Children?

Unlike many earthly parents who might discipline their children by sending them to their rooms or giving time-outs, God's method of disciplining is often misunderstood. While it's true that many parents set boundaries and correct their children's behavior, God's corrective actions may be perceived as severe, with eternal punishment for not adhering to His rules. This, however, does not reflect the true essence of God's love and compassion. If we delve into the teachings of the Bible, we find a picture of a God who desires relationship and communication with His 'children.'

Compassion and Righteousness: The Heart of God

The message of God's love is clear in the teachings of the Apostle John. John 3:16-18 states:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

Similarly, John 6:37 further reinforces this idea:

“For the one who believes in Him will not be put to shame.”

These verses emphasize God's desire for relationship and His offer of eternal life. God promises never to cast out those who come to Him, as recorded in John 6:37. He is characterized as compassionate and righteous, with all explanations found in the Book of John and other parts of the Bible, such as the first Epistle of John.

Understanding God's Plan: Sacrifice for Love

The ultimate expression of God's love is seen through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. No one has ever laid down their life for another as sacrificially as God laid down Jesus for us. The Bible, in 1 John 3:16, states:

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.”

God's love is not simply about forgiveness but also about making a profound sacrifice that transcends our understanding. This act of sacrificing His only son exemplifies the depth of His love and the importance of His relationship with us.

God's Unwavering Attention and Care

When we face disasters, suffering, or loss, it's natural to wonder if God is aware of us and cares about us. 1 Peter 5:7 encourages us to cast all our anxieties on God because He cares for us:

“Casting all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

Jesus also taught in Matthew 10:29-31 that not a sparrow falls to the ground without God's knowledge, and an even greater love is shown in the fact that God counts the number of hairs on our head. This verse emphasizes that we should not fear, as God is deeply interested in us:

“Are not two sparrows sold for a [very small] price? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that God knows and cares about each of us, even in the most mundane and invisible details of our lives. We are all of greater value to God than the sparrows, who are never worth more than a human being to Him.

Conclusion

The heart of God is one of compassion and righteousness, but it is also filled with profound love. His actions, from offering His only son to laying down our own concerns, demonstrate an unending desire for relationship. In a world full of uncertainty and suffering, understanding the love of God provides a source of comfort and hope. Let us embrace this love and seek to grow in our relationship with Him.
