Souvenir of Memorable Moments: TV Series or Movie I Haven't Finished Watching Due to the Loss of a Viewing Companion
Have you ever found yourself with a movie or TV series unfinished, simply because the person you were sharing the viewing experience with is no longer there? For many of us, the emotional bond formed over shared viewing moments can sometimes be the reason we keep revisiting certain series or films, even when we are no longer with our partner in crime.
The Unfinished Journey: NCIS New Orleans
One such instance in my life involves the popular TV series, NCIS New Orleans. I could not ask for a better person to share this series with than my dear mother, Scot Bakula. The series, centered around the life of a special agent, had captured my imagination, especially with its intriguing storyline and the endearing characters. However, the journey of watching NCIS New Orleans together was unfortunately marred by her passing on May 31, 2020. My mom was a strong-willed woman who could always make a story vivid and compelling with her protagonist-like approach. It was the perfect match for a series created around the dedicated and brave characters of NCIS.
Two of my favorite characters, Abby Sciatico and Ryan Moreau, played a significant role in my enjoyment of the series. Abby, a crackerjack forensic scientist, provided an exciting and sometimes quirky perspective. Ryan Moreau, the charming and handsome federal legal counsel, had a humorous and engaging presence on the show. Throughout the series, they offered a dynamic and captivating duo, which kept me coming back for more.
From Shared Viewing to Remembered Moments
The loss of a viewing companion adds a deeper layer of significance to the episodes that remain unfinished. It's not just about the enjoyment of the show, but a reminder of the memories we shared around the TV screen. Each unwatched episode is a capsule of emotions, from thrilling twists to heartfelt moments of human connection. It's almost as if the characters carry a part of my mom's spirit with them, allowing me to hold on to the moments we shared even after her passing.
The Challenge of Continuing Solo
When my mom passed away, I found it difficult to continue watching the series alone. For many who are left behind, this solo continuing of the journey can be a challenge. However, the absence of her doesn't diminish the series' appeal; it merely alters the viewing experience. Sometimes, the unwatched episodes serve as a reminder of the love and joy that once permeated our home. Other times, it's a reminder of how much I miss her. These episodes stand as a bridge between the past and the present, holding onto the memories of shared moments of laughter, discussion, and even occasional scolding over the plot twists.
Scattered Sentimental Episodes
The scattered episodes left behind are a collection of priceless moments. They are like pieces of a puzzle, each with its own unique shape and color, waiting to be pieced together. These episodes remind me of my mom and her infectious enthusiasm for the show. In a way, they continue to be a part of our shared memories, seamlessly fitting into the galleries of cherished moments from our time together. It's a bittersweet reminder of moments that defined our relationship and the person I admired and loved.
Conclusion
Unfinished movies and TV series become a motif of lost connections and lingering memories. For me, NCIS New Orleans remains an unwatched series much like a second-hand book, with sticky pages untouched. Yet, these unwatched episodes are a lasting reminder of my dearest companion and the cherished times we shared. Sharing the experience of the show unites us even in the absence of the person's physical presence. Despite the sadness, I find solace in knowing that the love and memories we shared will always be a part of this unwatched journey, waiting to be completed one day.
