Review of Dragon Ball Super Chapter 72: The Granolah Arc Conclusion

Good evening all! I'm continuing my review of the Granolah arc, and today's focus is on Chapter 72. Let's dive right in.

Granolah's Strategic Advantage

The chapter kicks off with an intense battle between Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Granolah. One of the highlights of this fight is how Granolah effectively uses his environment, proving that he's not just a punch button or a generic character. Goku, on the other hand, showcases his martial art skills by redirecting his momentum. This panel is particularly striking, as Granolah attacks Goku with a punch, but Goku blocks with his wrist. Now, while I'm not a professional martial artist, this move just doesn't pass the smell test. Always protect your joints, especially your wrists, during combat.

Goku's Performance and Stamina Issues

Early in the fight, Goku is seen tanking an attack from Granolah, who is mentioned as PSSB (Punch, Super Saiyan Blue) Granolah. It's a little uncomfortable to see Base Goku taking such a heavy hit without the support of his higher forms. To add insult to injury, Goku's neck is ominously referenced, evoking flashbacks to classic Saiyan battles. The explanation that Goku didn't start with Blue and UI because they’re not strenuous on his stamina feels a bit shoehorned, considering the previous portrayal of Goku's strength.

Flawed Transitions and Bizarre Battle Tactics

Another stand-out moment is the transition where Goku flips upside down to kick Granolah. This move, while impressive, falls short in terms of logic and realism. If Toei's fight choreographers were consulted, Goku might have executed a more intuitive and practical move. Despite the occasional hiccups in style and logic, Goku still flexes on Granolah, and it's quite the sight to behold.

Vegeta’s Predictions and Granolah’s Deception

Vegeta takes a moment to predict Granolah's next moves and assail him with a series of punches, only to let him breath for a bit. This unexpected breather gives Granolah enough time to hit Goku in a vital spot. Vegeta then makes a quick prediction that Granolah will come down from the sky, and indeed, he does. Granolah’s focus on hitting pressure points and his speed are commendable, but his reluctance to fully engage remains questionable.

The Bizarre Flying Conversation

As the battle progresses, Granolah spends time lecturing the Saiyans about the value of flying. His logic is a bit off, comparing Tien to a flying champion, who has been capable of it for much longer than the Z Fighters. This adds an absurdity to the scene, despite the intriguing backstories of Elec and Gas. Vegeta's presence, while not engaging, highlights his astute observations and analytical skills.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

In all, Chapter 72 of the Granolah arc is a mixed bag. Despite some quirks and illogical moments, it provides a solid fight sequence and further solidifies Granolah’s character as a devious and cunning opponent. As we conclude the Granolah arc, it’s clear that every chapter intends to build the suspense and characterization, even if it’s not always successful.

So, there you have it, the review of Chapter 72. Until next time, your thoughts and reactions are always welcome in the comments below.
