Could Scott Bakula be Getting a New Star Trek Series or Quantum Leap Sequel?

As of my last update in August 2023, there had been no official announcements about Scott Bakula returning to the Star Trek franchise in a new series. However, with the conclusion of NCIS: New Orleans, the possibility of his return to the world of Star Trek has once again sparked curiosity among fans.

Jonathan Archer's Return in Star Trek

It is possible, but would the story need to call for it. In the show Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, we might see a return of Jonathan Archer, portrayed by Bakula. With the character of Q appearing in the first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard, it is not entirely outside the realm of possibility that Archer could make an appearance as well. So, while it may not be official, it is certainly a high possibility.

Reprising His Role in Quantum Leap

While attention is largely on the Star Trek franchise, another exciting possibility is a sequel or reboot of the beloved time travel drama Quantum Leap. As Scott Bakula turns 66, time is running out for him to reprise his role as Sam Beckett. There have reportedly been discussions about producing a new version of the series on Peacock. Whether it will be a remake or a continuation, having Scott Bakula involved, even in a cameo, would be a significant draw for fans.

Archer Returns Rumors and Speculations

In the last week, internet forums have been buzzing with the rumor that Archer could return. The rumor appears to have originated on Giant Freakin Robot, with articles like "Exclusive: Scott Bakula Returning To Star Trek As Captain Archer." The proposal is that Archer would return as a guest shot or cameo in an existing Trek production, rather than as the lead in a new series.

Not everyone is excited about this. Entertainment news site Cinemblend referred to Bakula as a "B-name," indicating that not all fans are thrilled about his return. Regardless, Enterprise fans, who remain bitter about the series finale, have long hoped for a proper farewell to Captain Archer.

Various scenarios can be imagined for Archer's return. He could return as an old man in the new series "Strange New Worlds," or he could be a holodeck creation for Star Trek: Picard, although this seems unlikely given the demands of the character in the Enterprise finale. It is unlikely that they would pick up right where Enterprise left off, as it has been several years since the original series ended.

Known Cast Returns and Fan Speculation

While there is excitement around the potential return of Scott Bakula, it is important to remember that Trek rumors often come and go. Other rumored returns include William Shatner returning in the next big-screen movie, Dana individual appearing in a Picard episode, or even a DS9 made-for-TV movie. Meanwhile, actor Mulgrew has been confirmed for a role in Prodigy, and there is some support for Archer's return.

In the meantime, Star Trek continues to captivate audiences with its mixture of space exploration, diplomacy, and captivating storytelling. Fans are eagerly awaiting any official announcements and updates from the franchise.
