Excitement and Hope for the 15th Doctor in 'Doctor Who'

It's always exciting when a new doctor takes over in the beloved science fiction series, Doctor Who. The upcoming casting of Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor has generated a lot of interest and anticipation among fans. Jodie Whittaker, who played the role of the 13th Doctor, has expressed mixed feelings about the change but remains optimistic about the new era ahead.

Warming Up to the New Era

Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to portray the iconic Time Lord, describes Ncuti Gatwa's debut in his first episode as 'bringing in a whole new audience to Doctor Who.' She fondly recalls watching his debut and engaging in discussions with his fans, even answering questions like 'Who is the Toymaker?' This interaction seems to have laid a solid foundation for the upcoming journey.

“I’ve already witnessed him bringing in a whole new audience to Doctor Who. I was in the university bar when his debut aired and I ended up talking to some of his hardcore fans answering questions from them like who the Toymaker was. So yeah looking forward to a fresh face and new adventures,” she shares openly.

A New Face and Fresh Adventures

Another positive aspect for Jodie and the fans is the return of showrunner Russell T Davies, a good sign for potential quality and continuity. However, Whittaker also acknowledges that it's early to form a definitive opinion but so far, Ncuti Gatwa shows promise. He has screen presence and a unique 'doctor-ness' that make the role his own.

"He does bring a certain je ne sais quoi to the role. It's a bit early to say yet, but so far, he has screen presence and the flare. He's doing Doctor -ness his own spin on the character. It all looks promising!"

Concerns and Speculations

While Whittaker is optimistic, there are also concerns and speculations among fans. Jodie mentions that it would be disappointing if the aliens and monsters were not up to the mark, comparing it to the 'Jim Henson vibe' from 'The Star Beast' and 'The Church on Ruby Road.' This is a valid criticism as the visual effects and the monsters play a crucial role in Doctor Who.

She also muses that the casting choices could continue to be divisive. 'It’s a bit early to say yet but... if you read between the lines, you can see not only the dismay but also halted anger that yet again, it is not going to be Michelle Yeoh. There are no plans with or without Yeoh as the Doctor to have Rick Gervais playing himself as the Doctor’s companion or any plans to cast BD Wong as the Master.udging from recent casting choices, there's a very slight possibility that only the author of this piece wants to see Michelle Yeoh as Doctor Who and Ricky Gervais playing himself as the Doctor’s Companion. While, BD Wong as the Master is a great idea, but whether he and Yeoh cast at the same time would create a casting imbalance is still up for debate.’

Confidence in Ncuti Gatwa

Despite the mixed feelings, Whittaker is confident about the new time lord. She says, 'He’s going to bring an infinite amount of magic. I cannot wait. He’s going to smash it and I’m going to be on the front row very excited.’ Whittaker also emphasizes that Ncuti doesn’t need any advice from her, "I’m certainly not giving that phenomenal actor advice. He doesn’t need it from me. It’s yours to own and you’ve earned it."

With the promise of new adventures and a fresh perspective, fans of Doctor Who are eagerly awaiting the debut of the 15th Doctor. Whether the show lives up to the high standards set by the previous Doctors and the expectations of the fans remains to be seen, but for now, there is a mix of excitement and anticipation.
