If Every Animal Was Large Enough to Ride, Which Steed Would Make the Best Companion?

Imagine a world where every animal grows to the size of a steed, and the decision is up to you. What animal would be the perfect companion for a ride? For someone who is visually impaired and requires a thoughtful, adaptive approach, the choice can be quite unique and interesting.

My Best Companion: A Carriage

Given my visual impairment, the idea of riding an animal at a gallop would be far too risky. Instead, I would need to travel in a slower, more stable mode of transport, such as a carriage. This would ensure that both myself and the trainer/handler can pay close attention to the journey without the fear of accidents or collisions.

The carriage would travel at a walk, providing a comfortable and steady ride. I would, of course, have a trained handler who would accompany us and ensure my safety and comfort. Additionally, I would wear a riding helmet to protect my head from any accidental bumps or falls.

Alternatives to the Traditional Steed

It's always fun to imagine what other non-traditional animals could serve as an alternative steed. Here are a few options:

1. A Dolphin or Seal

For a visual impaired rider, it might also be interesting to explore aquatic creatures such as a dolphin or a seal. These animals could offer the thrill of the sea and the smooth, rhythmic motion of swimming. Of course, riding would be done on the surface of the water, not below, as I would never be taken underwater.

A dolphin or a seal would also offer a calming and sensory experience, as both are known for their intelligence and playful nature. However, it would be a non-traditional and somewhat unusual mode of transport.

2. A Wild Goose

Following in the spirit of Nils Holgersson from the famous Peter Pan story, one might also consider riding a wild goose. This would certainly be a fun and unique experience, allowing for a bird's-eye view of the world. Although the idea of riding a goose might seem a bit strange, it would definitely provide a memorable adventure.

3. A Cat, Named Plonker

For my own personal taste, I would choose to ride with my cat, Plonker. The idea of riding a large cat might seem a bit silly, but for a visual impaired rider, it would offer a sense of comfort and companionship. I would shout, “Yee-hah let’s roll!” and Plonker would reply, “Me ‘Ow,” suggesting a ride filled with playful exchanges.

4. A Bird of Prey

For those who enjoy the thrill of fast and powerful movements, a bird of prey could be a perfect choice. These magnificent creatures could offer a flight through the skies at high speeds, making for an exciting and adventurous ride. The beauty and awe-inspiring nature of such a ride would be hard to match.

5. A Ferret or a Large Catsnake

For a flexible and cuddly companion, a ferret might be the ideal choice. While they wouldn't be large enough to ride, the idea of a large, cuddly ferret provides the opportunity for a cuddly and comforting experience. Alternatively, a large catsnake could offer the perfect size for hugging and relaxing together.

6. The Tarantula Hawk Wasp

For those who enjoy a bit of a challenge and the unconventional view, imagine one of these wasps large enough to ride! While it might sound terrifying, the Tarantula Hawk Wasp would provide a unique and awe-inspiring ride. With its hunting skills and fearsome reputation, such a wasp would make for a memorable and adventurous journey. However, this would be a very hypothetical and perhaps metaphorical choice!

Ultimately, the choice of a large animal to ride would depend on personal preference and the practicalities involved. From the safety and comfort of a carriage to the playfulness of a cat or wild goose, the options are endless and unique. Whether you opt for the traditional steed or an unconventional companion, every choice would offer its own set of experiences and adventures.
