Choosing the Ideal Form for a TARDIS: A Treehouse or a Cozy Library?

An exploration into the various forms a TARDIS could take, with a focus on the aesthetics and utility of a cozy library versus a treehouse.

Why a Cozy Library?

If I had a TARDIS, one form that prominently comes to mind is a cozy library or study. This space would represent the perfect blend of knowledge, creativity, and inspiration. Reflecting on the vast universe of ideas and stories, a library would offer a myriad of resources for exploration and learning.

The exterior of my TARDIS could maintain its classic blue police box look. However, the interior would be a warm and inviting sanctuary. Imagine shelves filled with books, comfortable seating, and perhaps a window that showcases different time periods and places as you travel through time and space. It would be a perfect environment for a curious and imaginative Time Lord to call home.

Treehouse as a Unique Alternative

Alternatively, a treehouse could also be an intriguing choice for a TARDIS. Why a treehouse you might ask? Well, for starters, a treehouse would offer a unique and distinct form—a structure that stands on its own, independent of trees, but still resembling a cozy shelter.

The sign on the treehouse might read:

“Don’t come in unless you’ve brought food… preferably Jammie Dodgers or Custard.”

This quaint and whimsical directive adds a charm and character to the TARDIS, making it both intriguing and endearing. A treehouse would also offer a unique experience of being in a location that feels both grounded and otherworldly.

The Nature of a TARDIS

A TARDIS, short for Time and Relative Dimensions in Space, is a ship that can transport anyone to anywhere and to any time. It is unique in that its inside is endlessly huge, but in our plane of existence, it can be relatively small. The TARDIS can be as small as a gumball and able to warp space so that you can enter and exit through a door as small as the eye of a needle.

However, the TARDIS can also become so small that it could be lost in a couch cushion. This is not a problem because Timelords can summon their TARDISes at will. Sometimes, the TARDIS can get so small that it traps the Timelord inside. Technically, the TARDIS can dematerialize, leaving the Timelord outside. In some instances, the TARDIS can get stuck in the time stream with no way of summoning it. However, sometimes, it can be intercepted with a transmat beam on a planet that has the right technology.

The Chameleon Circuit and Form

A TARDIS has a Chameleon Circuit, allowing it to take on any shape, blending in with the natural environment. Historically, the Chameleon Circuit would often stay in its last setting, and people tended to ignore anything strange, making it less of an issue. In the original series, the TARDIS took the form of a police box because the BBC was cheap and liked to use objects in their natural environment.

However, in modern settings, the TARDIS needs to be something that people just accept as part of their environment. This brings us to the question of what these mattress stores are really hiding.

I’ve witnessed mattress stores located side by side, raising questions about their financial viability. Why do they need so many stores? This curiosity aligns with the idea that a TARDIS could take on a form that people would simply accept, without questioning why a police box is found on every corner or a treehouse looms mysteriously in a cityscape.

Conclusion

The form of a TARDIS can vary widely, from a cozy library to a whimsical treehouse. Each choice offers a unique blend of utility and symbolism. Whether you prefer a space filled with books and inspiration or a cozy hideaway in the trees, a TARDIS would undoubtedly be a mysterious and enchanting home for a Time Lord.

Finally, the peculiarities of the real world, such as the prevalence of mattress stores, can serve as reminders that even the most mundane aspects of life can hide great wonders and mysteries.
