Analysis of the Ending of the K-drama Nevertheless: A Fan's Perspective

As a long-time K-drama enthusiast, I find myself rather disappointed with the ending of Nevertheless. The narrative, while emotional, often felt predictable and lacking in substance. This article explores my thoughts on the ending and what I would have preferred for the main characters. Do-hyeok, nicknamed "Potato Boy," was depicted as a more considerate and kind-hearted individual who genuinely helped Na-bi heal. If the story had taken a different turn, with Na-bi realizing the toxicity in her relationship with Jae-eon and eventually rekindling her connection with Do-hyeok, I believe it would have been a more satisfying resolution for the audience. This storyline not only offers a healthier outlook but also aligns better with the overall theme of personal growth and self-worth.

Unpredictability and Boredom in the Ending

The ending of the series was, to a certain extent, very predictable, which contributed to the dullness I felt while watching. Starting the story with a visit to an art gallery and ending it with a similar scene where Jae-eon helps fix the final sculpture project felt repetitive and uninspired. The outcome, with Na-bi and Jae-eon reuniting, was somewhat anticipated and did not offer any fresh content or surprise elements.

Side Stories and Conclusive Endings

On a more positive note, I was glad to see the side couples, such as Yoon Sol and Seo Ji-wan, as well as Oh Bit-na and Nam Gyu-hyun, receive more conclusive endings. Their storylines were more captivating and provided a better sense of closure compared to the main story. These narratives enriched the overall experience of the show and added depth to the characters involved.

Progressiveness and Future Influence

Despite the disappointments, there was still a silver lining. The progressive nature of the K-drama Nevertheless signifies a significant shift in how K-dramas are being written and told. This progressive approach towards character development, especially in dealing with toxic relationships and emotional readiness, will undoubtedly influence future K-dramas.
